| There is no doubt in my mind that we assistants who primarily work in episodic television have benefited from having on-board monitors as standard camera equipment. I have come to view my monitor as an extremely useful tool not just for its benefit to me, but to every department on the set.
I first heard about the Transvideo 5 Rainbow monitor in 1996 from Walt Andrus, who is the camera operator I work with. When I saw it for the first time, I was very impressed by the wonderfully bright picture, excellent angle of view, and how well it performed outdoors in bright sunlight. I remember when I brought it to the set for the first time, the cinematographer, Kenneth Zunder, was also very impressed by the beautiful image quality. In fact, no one had seen a monitor that nice on a camera before!
